Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, June 4, 2021.
The victim has been identified:
Briona Leshay Groom, (27), B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 5:10 a.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to 4601 Eastlake Boulevard on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed a vehicle that collided with a chain-linked fence.
The victim was removed from the vehicle where officers observed her suffering from gunshot injuries. Birmingham and Fire and Rescue personnel transported the victim to UAB Hospital where she remained hospitalized. On Sunday, July 25, 2021, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office personnel notified our department that the victim succumbed to her injuries.
