Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The victim was discovered on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at approximately 3:00 p.m.

The deceased has been identified as:

Deshandra Lashode Bell, B/M, 25 of Birmingham, Alabama.

 Officers from the West Precinct responded to a call of a person shot at 1600 Pearson Avenue Southwest. Upon arrival officers discovered a person inside the store suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital for treatment. Investigators later learned that the victim had succumbed to his injury during a surgical procedure and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

Responding officers found that the victim was shot at another location and ran to the store for help before collapsing. There are no suspects in custody.

 This is Birmingham’s 6th homicide investigation of 2020 and 2nd justifiable death investigation. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigation counts.
