Public’s Assistance with the Double Homicide Investigation of Rodriquez Powell & Justin Taylor

Detectives request assistance from the public in obtaining information on a double homicide that occurred on Saturday, September 3, 2022, in the 4200 Block of Inglenook Street. The double homicide claimed the lives of Rodriquez Powell & Justin Taylor.

At approximately 1:45 PM, East Precinct officers were dispatched to the 4200 Block of Inglenook Street on report of shots fired. The call was then updated to two people shot.

Officers arrived on the scene and then observed both victims unresponsive inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Mr. Taylor was in the driver’s seat of the vehicle with Mr. Powell in the front passenger’s seat.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced Mr. Powell deceased. BFR transported Mr. Taylor to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests a vehicle drove past the victims and an occupant fired shots at the victim. Officers observed over twenty spent shell casings on the ground.

Currently, there is no one in custody.

 Double Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 182-2022)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a double homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, September 3, 2022.

The victims have been identified as:

 1. Rodriquez Jerrell Powell, (32), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

2. Justin Jarell Taylor, (35), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
