Public’s Assistance with the Double Homicide Investigation of Jalen Tolbert & Marquse Yarbrough

 Detectives request assistance from the public in obtaining information on a double homicide that occurred on Saturday, September 3, 2022, in the 100 Block of 3rd Avenue West that claimed the lives of Jalen Tolbert & Marquse Yarbrough.

At approximately 9:20 PM, North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 100 Block of 3rd Avenue West on report of multiple Shot Spotter alerts. The call was then updated to multiple people shot.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed both of the victims lying in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. A third adult male was observed inside an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) transported all of the victims to UAB Hospital. Mr. Tolbert & Yarbrough succumbed to their injuries. The third victim from the scene suffered non-life-threatening injuries. BPD learned a fourth victim showed up to UAB Hospital via private vehicle with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests one of the victims was involved in some type of verbal argument prior to multiple suspects firing shots. Shot Spotter registered over thirty rounds fired.

Currently, there is no one in custody.

Double Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 183-2022)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a double homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, September 3, 2022.

The victims have been identified as:

  1. Jalen Jamarcus Tolbert, (24), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

 

  1. Marquse Terrail Yarbrough, (25), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
