Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The homicide occurred on Saturday, September, 5, 2020.
The victim has been identified as Sharod Harrison, (34), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Early Saturday morning just before 6:00 a.m., Officers from West Precinct responded a Shot Spotter call of multiple rounds fired at the Crown Lounge located at 517 19th Street Ensley. BPD 911 Communications Division also received calls of a person shot. Officers arrived to find the victim, Sharod Harrison lying on the ground in the rear parking lot of the Crown Lounge. Harrison was wounded by gunfire and was pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

The preliminary investigation suggest an altercation ensued at the Crown Lounge resulting in an exchange of gunfire. It is unclear if the victim was involved in the altercation or caught in the crossfire. Multiple people were detained and questioned by detectives. The investigation is ongoing. This is Birmingham’s 69th homicide of 2020 with 11 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police
Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
