Media Release 2- Homicide Investigation- 7th Avenue South

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 6, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Ledaron Pope, (43), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.  

At approximately 5:05 p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call in the 8400 Block of 7th Avenue South.

Officers arrived on the scene and then entered a residence when they observed the victim lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim may have been shot during a home invasion.

There is no one in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 1st murder investigation of 2024.
