Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
The victim has been identified as:
Michael Scott, (32), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 10:20 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a ShotSpotter alert in the 1000 Block of Vinesville Road. The call was updated to a Person Shot call.
Officers arrived on the scene and then observed the victim unresponsive inside a vehicle; he was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was sitting in a vehicle at a residence in the 5500 Block of Avenue J when an unknown suspect(s) fired shots into his vehicle.
There is no one in custody.
