Public’s Assistance with the Rodger Burr II Homicide Investigation

Detectives request assistance from the public in obtaining information on a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, that claimed the life of Rodger Burr II.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Carline Avenue on reports of a person shot. Officers from West Precinct responded and found the victim, Rodger Burr II inside of his vehicle unresponsive. Burr was shot multiple times and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was at the intersection of Carline Avenue and Avenue T when another vehicle pulled adjacent to the victim’s car. Someone inside that vehicle fired multiple shots fatally wounding the victim. The victim’s car rolled forward and came to rest yards away. There are no suspect(s) in custody. Detectives have not established a motive.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred in the 700 block of Carline Avenue on September 30, 2020.

The victim has been identified as Rodger Burr II, (41), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Carline Avenue on reports of a person shot. Officers from West Precinct responded and found the victim, Rodger Burr II inside of his vehicle unresponsive. Burr was shot multiple times and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

This is Birmingham’s 77th homicide investigation of 2020 and 14 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
