Media Release 211- Double Homicide Investigation- 2nd Avenue North

Double Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a double homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, October 6, 2023.

The victims have been identified as:

  1. Jjuan Cole, (22), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
  2. Dyron Mays-Perry, (27), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At around 1:12 a.m., a North Precinct officer was patrolling in the 800 Block of 2nd Avenue North when he heard gunshots being fired. He drove to the parking lot of a local business when community members alerted him there was a person shot in the parking lot.

Our officer observed Jjuan Cole lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound; he then observed an adult female lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and Dyron Mays-Perry lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced both adult male victims deceased. BFR transported the adult female to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests an unknown suspect(s) fired shots in the parking lot. The three victims were struck by gunfire. Several vehicles and a local business were shot into.

The motive is unknown in this shooting.

There is no one in custody.
