Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide Investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 20, 2020 in the Elyton Village Housing community. The victim has been identified as Fannie Carter, (66), B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama. Shortly after 2:00 p.m. officers from North Precinct responded to a call of a juvenile (age 16) shot following an altercation. While on scene, officers heard multiple shots fired nearby. Upon further investigation officers discovered the victim Fannie Carter in the 10 block of 4th Court West alley unresponsive suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Officers also found a third person who was wounded. He was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggest an altercation took place on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Alabama State Fair Participants met up in Elton Village to finish the fight which resulted in shots being fired. The two adult victims wounded were caught in the crossfire. There are no suspect(s) in custody. This is Birmingham’s 73rd homicide of 2020 with 14 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting).
