Public’s Assistance with the Roderick Gray Jr. Homicide Investigation

Detectives request assistance from the public in obtaining information on a homicide that occurred on Saturday, October 15, 2022, that claimed the life of Roderick Gray Jr.

At approximately 2:40 AM, two Birmingham Police officers, working in an off-duty capacity at a nearby nightclub, were alerted of a person shot in the 200 Block of 4th Street North.

The two officers alerted the Birmingham 911 Communications Division; North Precinct officers responded to the location. Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive in an alleyway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim may have been at a nearby nightclub prior to the shooting taking place across the street in an alleyway.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

The victim has been identified as:

Roderick Earl Gray Jr., (26), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 2:40 AM, two Birmingham Police officers, working in an off-duty capacity at a nearby nightclub, were alerted of a person shot in the 200 Block of 4th Street North.

The two officers alerted the Birmingham 911 Communications Division; North Precinct officers responded to the location. Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive in an alleyway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim may have been at a nearby nightclub prior to the shooting taking place across the street in an alleyway. The nightclub’s security staff (non-BPD personnel) detained a person of interest.

Homicide detectives will interview the person of interest.
