Media Release 229 – Arrington Middle School Lockdown

Arrington Middle School Lockdown

The Birmingham Police Department was notified that an adult male who sustained a gunshot injury had arrived at Arrington Middle School just before 8:30 AM.

The male was in the lobby of the school and walked back out. As a safety precaution the school was placed on lockdown as the investigation continued.

The investigation revealed that there were no shots fired near nor around the school. The male sustained his injury at some earlier time and not near Arrington Middle School. He advised had been treated at Princeton Hospital and left the hospital against medical advice. He boarded a bus, but due to cognitive issues he may have boarded the wrong bus and may have been confused about where he was.

He was transported to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service for treatment.

Around 9:00 AM the school was taken off a lock down status once we determined there was no threat to the school or its occupants.

**The information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**
