Media Release 229- Homicide Investigation- Alabama Avenue

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, October 30, 2023.

The victim is a black female who has not been identified

Just before 12 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Down call in the 1500 Block of Alabama Avenue.

A community member observed the victim lying unresponsive.

Officers arrived on the scene and then observed an adult black female lying unresponsive in a grassy area in the alleyway.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

Officers notified BPD Homicide detectives who arrived on the scene and conducted an Unclassified Death investigation.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office took care and custody of the victim.

On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office notified Homicide detectives an autopsy revealed the victim had been shot.

There is no one in custody.

Anyone who is missing a loved one (black female) from the West Birmingham area is encouraged to contact the Birmingham Police Department.

The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations in the total homicide investigations counts.
