Homicide Investigation

 The Birmingham Police Department detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident  occurred on Saturday, September 25, 2021.

The victim has been identified as Marion Reynolds (61), b/m of Birmingham, Alabama.

 At approximately 9:37 a.m., officers from the West Precinct responded to the 3900 block of Mineral Ave SW after receiving a call of a person down. Officers arrived on scene and observed the victim who was later identified as Marion Reynolds lying unresponsive in the street. Reynolds suffered from a gunshot wound which proved to be fatal. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by the Jefferson County Coroner.

The victim was walking his dog when he was shot. Detectives believe the victim was targeted, however a clear motive has not been established. No arrest has been made. The investigation  is ongoing. Updates will be provided as this case develops.

 This is Birmingham’s 74th  murder investigation of 2021 and 12  justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.

**The information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**
