 Public’s Assistance with the Michael Arrington Homicide Investigation

Detectives request assistance from the public in obtaining information on a homicide which occurred on Monday, June 6, 2022.

On Monday, June 6, 2022, Michael Arrington was shot and killed while in the 1100 Block of 40th Street Ensley. Michael Arrington was sitting in a vehicle along with a female passenger when an unknown suspect(s) shot into his white van killing him and severely wounding his passenger. Detectives believe both victims were targeted.

Currently, there is no one in custody.

 Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday June 6, 2022.

The victim has been identified as Michael Lazaria Arrington, (37), b/m of Birmingham, Alabama.

Just after 3:00 p.m., officers from the West Precinct responded to a ShotSpotter alert of twenty-one rounds fired in the 1100 block of 40th Street Ensley. Officers arrived and observed a white van struck multiple times by gunfire. Upon further investigation officers observed two occupants inside. An adult male was found unresponsive in the drivers seat and a female victim was found wounded in the passenger seat. The male victim was pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel. The female victim was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates both victims were sitting in the parked vehicle when the suspects fired several rounds into the vehicle. Detectives believe the victims were targeted; however, a motive has not been established. No arrest has been made.
