Birmingham Detectives Need to Identify a Person in a Homicide Investigation

Birmingham Police detectives are requesting assistance from the public in identifying a person who was present at a residence where Lapez Reddrick was murdered moments later.

Witnesses reported hearing an argument taking place inside of the residence just before the victim was shot. An unidentified black male reportedly ran out of the back door of the residence after the victim collapsed.

Detectives obtained images of the pictured male subject present at the back door of the residence just minutes prior to the shooting. They need to talk with this person.

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, July 19, 2021.

The victim has been identified as:

Lapez Reddrick, (47), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to 928 Erie Street on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and made entry into the residence. Officers discovered a male victim lying unresponsive in the dining room injured.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel were unable to determine the cause of the victim’s fatal injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests foul play is involved. The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the victim’s cause of death. At this time, there is no suspect(s) in custody.

 This is Birmingham’s 61st homicide investigation of 2021 with 4 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.

The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**
