Four People Shot on Interstate 59 South

The Birmingham Police Department reports four people have been shot after a shootout took place on Interstate 59 South. The incident occurred on Friday, November 10, 2023.

At around 4:40 p.m., the Birmingham 911 Communications Division began receiving calls of a shootout on Interstate 59 South just before the 20th Street Ensley Exit.

West Precinct officers arrived on the scene and observed two vehicles that had been shot into on Interstate 59 South just before the Bush Boulevard Exit.

Officers observed two adult males suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers observed an adult female and detained her for questioning.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported both males to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers learned two additional adult male gunshot victims arrived at UAB Hospital by private vehicle; they have non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation has revealed the following: we believe a party saw their possible stolen vehicle which was allegedly taken earlier in a neighboring city. The party began to follow the vehicle before both parties stopped on Interstate 59 South and a shootout ensued.

We believe all injured parties were involved in the initial incident.

The adult female was questioned then released.

Detectives will present case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
