Media Release 24- Homicide Investigation- Old Springville Road

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Colby Cade, (33), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Initial Call

At approximately 6:35 p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call at Fire Station #30, located at 1512 Old Springville Road.

Officers arrived on the scene and then observed a vehicle that collided with a fire station bay door. Officers observed Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel providing aid to two gunshot victims, the victim, and an adult female.

BFR personnel transported both victims to UAB Hospital. UAB Hospital Staff pronounced the victim deceased. The adult female victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No firefighters were injured.

Investigation

The preliminary investigation suggests both victims were at the Shell gas station, located at 1529 Old Springville Road when an unknown suspect(s) approached them and then began firing shots at the victims.

The female victim drove both victims away from the Shell; the victims’ vehicle then collided with Fire Station #30’s bay door while the adult female victim was seeking help for the two.

There is no one in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 7th murder investigation of 2024 with 1 justifiable death ruling.
