 Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.  The incident occurred on Saturday, November 7, 2020.

The victim has been identified as Ricky Ray Carlisle, (57), B/M, of Hoover, Alabama.

At approximately 9:28 p.m., officers from West Precinct responded to an assault call at 3024 17th Street Ensley. Officers arrived and found the victim in the living room unresponsive suffering from a stab wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue and Jefferson County Coroner.

The preliminary investigation suggest the incident is domestic in nature. The victim was involved in a verbal altercation prior to being fatally wounded. There is one suspect in custody. Updates will be provided as this case develop.

This is Birmingham’s 87th homicide investigation of 2020 with 13 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
