 Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on October 11, 2020.

The victim has been identified as Deundre Whitt, (26), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At 2:23 a.m., officers from North Precinct responded to Side Effects Night Club located at400 2nd Ave North on a call of a person shot. Officers arrived and found the victim Deundre Whitt lying on the floor inside of the club suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Whitt was transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. On November 1, 2020,Whitt succumb to his injuries. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office ruled the victim died as a result of the injuries he sustained from being shot.

Details are limited in this investigation. Detectives have not established a motive. There are no suspects in custody. Updates will be provided as this case develops. This is Birmingham’s 88th homicide investigation of 2020 with 13 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
