Media Release 243- Homicide Investigation- 5th Street Pratt

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:

Darryl Bowie, (56), B/M, of Fairfield, Alabama.

At approximately 10:40 a.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call in the 400 Block of 5th Street Pratt.

Officers arrived on the scene when they observed the victim lying unresponsive in the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers observed an adult female on the sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. BFR personnel transported the adult female victim to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests both victims were in the 400 Block of 5th Street Pratt when an unknown suspect(s) fired shots at them. The suspect(s) fled the scene in a vehicle.

There is no one in custody.
