Public’s Assistance in the Joshua & Brandon Carpenter Homicide Investigations
The Birmingham Police Department is requesting assistance from the public in two unsolved homicide cases from 2022, where brothers, Joshua and Brandon Carpenter were tragically killed nine months apart from another.
Joshua Carpenter (Media Release 37-2022) was shot and killed on Monday, February 21, 2022, while in the 1700 Block of 33rd Street North.
Brandon Carpenter (Media Release 234-2022) was shot and killed on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, while in the 4100 Block of Messer Airport Highway.

Homicide Investigation
(Media Release 37-2022)
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, February 21, 2022.
The victim has been identified as:
Joshua Isaiah Carpenter, (26), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 1700 block of 33rd Street North on report of shots fired. Officers were then alerted a victim had been shot at the location. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered a male lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Details are limited in this investigation. Currently, there is no one in custody.

Homicide Investigation
(Media Release 234-2022)
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
The victim has been identified as:
Brandon Tavarius Carpenter, (28), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 1 PM, South Precinct officers were dispatched to the 500 Block of 41st Street North on report of multiple Shot Spotter alerts. While en route, the call was updated to a person shot call.
Officers arrived on the scene when they observed the victim lying unresponsive in an alleyway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was outside of a vehicle when he was approached by at least two suspects who fired shots at him. The victim was struck by gunfire. The suspects fled the scene.
