Officers Talk Juvenile Down from Roof in Woodlawn
The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) reports officers successfully talked a male juvenile down from a roof who was threatening to jump. The incident occurred on Thursday, November 16, 2023.
At around 3:05 p.m., East Precinct officers received a report of a Woodlawn High School student threatening to jump off the roof of an old gas station across the street from the high school.
Officers arrived at the gas station when they observed a 17-year-old male on the roof of the old gas station; the juvenile was experiencing a crisis and threatening to jump.
Patrol officers began speaking with the young male. BPD Tactical Operations officers and negotiators arrived on the scene to provide support and ensure the juvenile’s safety. Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel were on the scene assisting our officers.
At around 5:05 p.m., BPD and BFR personnel were able to talk the juvenile down from the roof by him climbing down from the roof onto a Birmingham Fire and Rescue firetruck. Officers transported him to a local area hospital for additional care.
