Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives have identified the victim of a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at approximately 8:18 p.m.

The deceased has been identified as:
Javaruise Lewis, B/M, 18, of Minter, Alabama.

Officers from the West Precinct responded to 2900 22nd Place, Ensley to investigate a Shot Spotter call. Officers also received a call of shots fired from citizens in the area. Upon arrival, officers observed a male subject inside the residence unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived with the Jefferson County Coroner and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

A second victim was located outside the location suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue for treatment. He is expected to recover from his injury.

No suspects are in custody.
