Death Investigation Ruled Homicide
The Birmingham Police Department reports the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has ruled the decedent sustained a gunshot wound during an assault. Detectives are investigating this case as a homicide.
The victim has been identified as Evander Lewis Williams, (29), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

This is Birmingham’s 92nd homicide investigation of 2020 with 13 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.

The Birmingham Police Department is currently conducting an unclassified death investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.
The victim’s will be identity will be released pending investigation findings and notification of next of kin.
At approximately, 10:12 a.m., officers from East Precinct responded to 4000 block of 36th Ave North and found a male lying unresponsive on the ground. The male was found on the side of an apartment building. The victim was pronounced deceased by Birmingham Fire and Rescue and the Jefferson County Coroner.
Information is limited in this investigation. It has been determined the victim suffered from a gunshot wound. The Birmingham Police Department’s Communication Division received reports of this incident being a suicide; however the manner of death is yet to be determined. The Birmingham Police Department will release additional information upon confirmation of the cause of death from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
