Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, October 18, 2021.

The victim has been identified as:
Deonta Pickett, (40), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., South Precinct officers were dispatched to 1305 44th Street North on report of multiple Shot Spotter alerts coming from an apartment complex.
Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim slumped over in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in a parking space inside of the complex. The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound; he was unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the male deceased.
