Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
The victim has been identified as:
Zion Kewayne Taylor (24), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 1:33 p.m., West Precinct officers were responding to a ShotSpotter notification. While en route, the call was updated stating a male had been shot at 17th Street Ensley and Avenue I.
Officers arrived on the scene and observed an adult male unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and an unknown male were involved in a verbal altercation, the unknown male shot the victim and left the scene.
There is no one in custody.
