Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred in the 800 block of Cable Car Court at the Valley Station Apartment Complex.

The victim will be identified upon next of kin notification.

Just after 10:00 p.m., officers from the South Precinct responded to a call of a person shot. Officers arrived on scene and observed the victim lying in the parking lot wounded by gunfire. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue and the Jefferson County Coroner.

The preliminary investigation indicates a verbal altercation escalated to gunfire. The suspect involved in the incident notified authorities stating he shot someone. The suspect was taken into custody on the scene and has been cooperative with detectives, however the investigation is ongoing.
