Arrest Made in the Quantez Banks Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Quantez Banks. Quantez Banks was shot and killed on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Mel’s Lounge, located at 3921 Richard Arrington Junior Boulevard North.

The suspect has been identified as:

Jordan Jackson, (19), B/M, of Gardendale, Alabama.

Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Murder.

Jordan Jackson was arrested on the morning of the homicide near the incident location; he is currently in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with No Bond.

NOTE: At the time of the incident, the suspect Jordan Jackson was an employee of the business.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 263)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:

Quantez Banks, (32), B/M, of Center Point, Alabama.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., South Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call at Mel’s Lounge, which is located at 3921 Richard Arrington Junior Boulevard North.

Officers arrived on the scene and then entered the lounge when they observed the victim lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was involved in a verbal argument with an adult male. The adult male shot the victim then fled the scene.

Responding patrol officers took the suspect into custody near Mel’s Lounge; officers transported the suspect to BPD Headquarters where BPD Homicide detectives interviewed him.

The suspect was booked into the Birmingham City Jail under a 48-Hour Felony Extension for Murder.
