Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports the Jefferson County Coroner has identified the victim of a homicide that occurred on Tuesday December 8, 2020 at 2803 21st Street Ensley.
The victim has been identified as Reynard Orr, (37), b/m, of Bessemer, Alabama.

The preliminary investigation indicates some type of altercation occurred inside the residence prior to Reynard Orr being shot and fatally wounded. Detectives continue to search for a motive and a suspect(s) in this homicide.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. At approximately 6:49 p.m. officers from West Precinct responded to 2803 21st Street Ensley on a call of a person shot. Officers arrived and found the victim inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Shortly after, BPD was notified the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. There is limited information available in this investigation. There are no suspects in custody, nor have detectives established a motive. Updates will be provided as this case develops.

This is Birmingham’s 100th homicide investigation of 2020 with 13 justifiable death investigations and 1 non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting). The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
