Media Release 272-Homicide Investigation-2nd Avenue North

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, December 18, 2023.

The victim will be identified upon notification to the next of kin.

At approximately 7:17 a.m., North Precinct officers were responding to a call of a person down in the 300 Block of 2nd Avenue North.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed an adult male lying unresponsive next to a commercial building.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests a passerby saw the victim lying on the side of the commercial building and called 911 Emergency services.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office arrived on the scene and determined the victim had been shot.

There is no one in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 123rd murder investigation of 2023 with 9 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations in the total homicide investigations counts.
