Donald Cash Critical Missing Person Investigation Update
In September 2023, the Birmingham Police Department launched a Critical Missing Person investigation for Donald Cash; a loved one reported him missing from West Birmingham.
On Monday, November 6, 2023, BPD’s Crimes Against Persons Division and Tactical Operations Precinct personnel executed a search warrant at 1437 Brighton Road in connection to the disappearance of Donald Cash.
Investigators observed what appeared to be human remains in the backyard of the residence.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office recovered the victim’s remains; the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy that revealed the victim had been shot.
On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, Birmingham Police Detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant on the victim’s son, Ledarius Cash, 30, B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama, for the charge of Abuse of a Corpse. The suspect was booked into the Jefferson County Jail with a $250,000 Bond.
On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates notified BPD detectives the human remains were identified as: Donald Cash, 52, B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
BPD Homicide detectives have obtained a Murder (No Bond) warrant on the victim’s son Ledarius Cash; he remains in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, November 6, 2023.
The victim has not been identified.
At approximately 5:00 PM, investigators from the Crimes Against Persons Division and the Tactical Operations Division, executed a search warrant on a residence in the 1400 Block of Brighton Road.
While conducting the search warrant, investigators observed what appeared to be a fresh pile of compost/topsoil in the backyard of the residence.
Officers requested the assistance of a Cadaver K9 to the scene. While searching the backyard, the K9 alerted to the fresh compost pile.
Investigators used shovels to remove dirt from the pile and discovered what appeared to be skeletal remains.
On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and determined the skeletal remains were human. The coroner’s office took possession of the remains.
On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office notified Homicide detectives that the examination of the remains revealed the victim had been shot.
There is no one in custody.

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a critical missing person investigation. The Birmingham Police Department requests assistance from the public on locating the subject in the attached photo.
The missing person has been identified as:
Donald Cash, (52), B/M, 6’2’’ 230 pounds, of Birmingham, Alabama.
Donald Cash was last seen on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, in the Wylam community. He was wearing black pants, a black shirt, a black hat, and brown boots.
The Birmingham Police Department is upgrading this case to a Critical Missing Person Investigation due to the lead detective uncovering facts that would lead us to believe Donald Cash is in danger.
