Reclassification-Justifiable Ruling
The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have received a ruling in connection to the homicide investigation of Derick Williams. The incident occurred on Tuesday November 10, 2020. Investigators presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review. Following the assessment, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office ruled the actions justifiable. This investigation is reclassified as a Justified Death Investigation.
Double Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a double homicide investigation stemming from a domestic related incident.
The victim has been identified as Loretta Frazier, (65), b/f, of Birmingham, Alabama.
The deceased subject has been identified as Derick Williams, (40), b/m, of
Birmingham, Alabama. Just after 11:00 a.m., North precinct officers respond to a call of four people shot at 102412th Street North. Officer arrived and observed a deceased male, Derick Williams on lying non the sidewalk outside the apartment. Officers were alerted of others wounded inside the apartment. Officers entered the apartment and discovered the victim, Loretta Frazier lying on the floor unresponsive in the living room. Frazier was pronounced deceased on the scene. A male and female was found also inside the apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. Both surviving victims were transported to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue. The female medical condition has been upgraded to stable. The male victim injuries are non-life threatening.
The preliminary investigation suggest Derick Williams who was in a previous romantic relationship with the surviving female came to the location and shot all three people inside. The wounded male victim inside was able to return fire fatally wounding Williams. The investigation indicates a domestic report was filed at this location within the last 24 hours and there has been a history of domestic related incidents. Updates will be provided as this case develops.
