14-Year-Old Injured by Gunfire;14-Year-Old Taken into Custody
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting an assault investigation after a juvenile was shot. The incident occurred on Monday, January 30, 2023.
The victim is a 14-year-old male.
At approximately 5:45 PM, West Precinct officers were dispatched to 2nd Court West @ 12th Street West on report of a person shot.
Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was involved in a verbal argument with a suspect the victim may have previously known.
Officers and detectives went to a nearby residence where they took a suspect into custody free of any incident.
The suspect is a 14-year-old male. We are withholding his information to protect his rights as a juvenile.
Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to Jefferson County Family Court officials. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a Pickup Order for the juvenile.
