Public’s Assistance with the Exavier Mitchell Homicide Investigation

Detectives request assistance from the public in obtaining information on a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, that claimed the life of Exavier Mitchell.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the Birmingham 911 Communications Division received a Shot Spotter alert at 2314 Bessemer Road (Dollar General).

Officers arrived on the scene and then observed the victim lying unresponsive in the parking lot near a black SUV; he was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests an unknown suspect(s) shot the victim in the Dollar General parking lot and then fled the scene.

There is no one in custody.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:

Exavier Mitchell, (26), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama. 

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the Birmingham 911 Communications Division received a Shot Spotter alert at 2314 Bessemer Road (Dollar General).

Officers arrived on the scene and then observed the victim lying unresponsive in the parking lot near a black SUV; he was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
