Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.

The victim has been identified as:

Michael Martez Johnson, B/M, (32), of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., South Precinct officers were dispatched to the 200 block of 3rd Avenue Southwest on report of a person shot inside of a vehicle.

Officers arrived on the scene where they observed two adult victims suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. One male victim (Michael Johnson) was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. An adult female passenger was also struck by gunfire. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported her to a local-area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests an unknown suspect approached the vehicle on foot then fired shots into the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot.
