Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports investigators are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 2904 John Bryant Road in the Kimbrough Homes Housing Community.
The victim has been identified as Major Turner, (2), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 9:37 p.m., officers from West Precinct responded to the location on a call of a child shot. Officer arrived and discovered the victim, Major Turner, lying on the living room floor suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper extremities.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and transported the child to Children’s Hospital of Alabama with life threatening injuries. Officers later discovered the mother of the child was wounded. She was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment and released.
The Birmingham Police Department’s 911 Communications Division later received notification the victim succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect(s) fired several rounds into the apartment from outside and fled the scene. There are currently no suspects in custody nor has a motive been established.

The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
