Arrest Made in the Robert Chandler Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained warrants for two arrests in connection to the murder of Robert Chandler. Robert Chandler was found shot and killed on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, in the 4200 Block of Fairmont Way.

Homicide detectives followed up on leads which led them to Huntsville, Alabama.

BPD Homicide detectives, Huntsville Police Department, and the United States Marshall’s Service took the two suspects into custody in Huntsville, Alabama.

The suspects have been identified as:

 1. Tanarence Bernard Murphy, 27, B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

2. Aaron Elijah Bearden, 24, B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama

Birmingham Police Detectives presented information on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained warrants for Capital Murder (Robbery) on both suspects.

Both suspects are in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with No Bond.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 29)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:

Robert Chandler, (57), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At around 8:10 AM, North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 4200 Block of Fairmont Avenue on report of a person down inside a residence.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim suffering from visible signs of trauma.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests a concerned community member discovered the victim and dialed 911.

It is unknown whether the victim was shot or stabbed.

The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Currently, there is no one in custody.
