Justifiable Death Ruling in the Jeremy Andrews Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have received a ruling in connection to the homicide investigation of Jeremy Andrews. The incident occurred on

Wednesday, February 28, 2024.

Investigators presented the information gathered to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review. Following the assessment, the Jefferson County District

Attorney’s Office ruled the actions justifiable. This investigation is reclassified as Justified Death Investigation #2.

The Birmingham Police Department has 17 murders thus far in 2024.

The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 37)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Jeremy Andrews, (33), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Just after 8:20 a.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched on report of a Person Shot at a residence in the 7800 Block of 7th Court South.

Officers arrived on the scene and then entered the residence when they discovered the victim lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests an adult female and an adult male (suspect) were involved in a verbal domestic disturbance argument.

The victim came over to the residence and then was involved in a physical altercation with the suspect. The suspect shot the victim.

NOTE: We believe both the victim and the suspect were armed.  

 Officers transported the suspect from the scene to BPD Headquarters. The suspect was then booked into the Birmingham City Jail under a 48-Hour Felony Extension for Murder.
