Eighth Arrest Made in the Mahogany Jackson Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for an eighth suspect in connection to the murder of Mahogany Jackson. On Monday, February 26, 2024, Mahogany Jackson was discovered shot and killed in the 1700 Block of Laurel Avenue.

The suspect has been identified as:

Airana Robinson, (23), B/F, of Hueytown, Alabama. 

With assistance from the community, detectives were able to identify Airana as a suspect in the early stages of the investigation. As the investigation progressed, detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.  On Friday, March 1, 2024, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Airana Robinson for Felony Murder / Kidnapping.

Airana Robinson is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail held under No Bond.

 

Seven Arrests Made in the Mahogany Jackson Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained arrest warrants for seven suspects in connection to the murder of Mahogany Jackson. On Monday, February 26, 2024, Mahogany Jackson was discovered shot and killed in the 1700 Block of Laurel Avenue.

With assistance from the community, detectives were not ONLY able to locate Mahogany Jackson’s body but detectives took seven suspects responsible for Mahogany’s murder into custody within 48 hours of the investigation.

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Birmingham Police detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained arrest warrants for the following suspects:

  1. Giovonnie Clapp: B/F, 23, of Birmingham, Alabama. Felony murder/kidnapping 1st, sodomy 1st; Assault 2nd with injury.

 

  1. Blair Green, B/M, 25, of Birmingham, Alabama. Felony murder/kidnapping 1st/sodomy 1st.

 

  1. Teja Lewis: B/F, 25, of Birmingham, Alabama. Felony murder; Assault 2nd with injury/weapon.

 

  1. Francis Harris, B/M, 25, of Birmingham, Alabama. Capital Murder/sodomy 1st; Capital murder/kidnapping 1st.

 

  1. Si’nya McCall, B/F, 23, of Bessemer, Alabama. Felony murder/kidnapping 1st/sodomy 1st.

 

  1. Jeremiah McDowell, B/M, 18, of Bessemer, Alabama. Capital murder/sodomy 1s; Capital murder/kidnapping 1st.

 

  1. Brandon Pope, B/M, 24, of Birmingham, Alabama. Capital murder/kidnapping 1st; Capital murder/sodomy1st.

All suspects are in the custody of the Jefferson Jail and held with No Bond.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 34)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, February 26, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Mahogany Jaquise Jackson, (20), B/F, of Jasper, Alabama.

At approximately 2:19 a.m. South Precinct Officers were responding to a call of a deceased person on the side of the road at 17th Street SW and Laurel Avenue.

When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the victim lying unresponsive on the side of the road, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests that a citizen observed the victim lying on the side of the road and called 911 Emergency Services.

The victim was reported missing on Sunday, February 25, 2024, by a family member.

There is no one in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 15th murder investigation of 2024 with 1 justifiable death investigation.

The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations in the total homicide investigations counts.
