The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, January 1, 2021.
The victim will be identified pending notification to the next of kin.
At approximately 9:05 pm, East Precinct officers were dispatched to 4040 40th Avenue North on report of a person down. Officers arrived on the scene where they located a victim lying unresponsive near a residence. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
Evidence suggests that this is a homicide investigation. Details are limited at this time.

This is Birmingham’s 1st homicide of 2021.
