Media Release 4-Homicide Investigation in the 2000 block of Treadwell Road

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, January 4, 2022.

The victim has been identified as Michelle Gilder, (40), b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to the 2000 block of Treadwell Road on a call of a person shot. Upon arrival officers discovered a vehicle stalled in the roadway riddled with bullets. The victim, Michelle Gilder was observed unresponsive in the driver seat. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and the victim was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the suspect(s) fired multiple rounds into the victim’s car before fleeing in a small sedan. The suspect(s) are still at large.

This is Birmingham’s 3rd murder investigation of 2022. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
