Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, February 25, 2022.
The victim has been identified as:
Marquis Antone Black Jr., (22), B/M, of Fairfield, Alabama.
At approximately 1:25 p.m. a South Precinct officer was patrolling the 900 block of 47th Street North when the officer heard several gunshots being fired. Shot Spotter alerts directed the officer to a nearby apartment building in the 900 block of 47th Street North.
The officer observed the victim lying unresponsive in a courtyard suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Details are limited in this investigation. Currently, there is no one in custody.
