Media Release 46- Homicide Investigation- Interstate 65 North
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, February 28, 2022.
The victim has been identified as:
Angel Esteban Hernandez, (37), H/M, of Owensboro, Kentucky.
At approximately 1:55 a.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to Interstate 65 North near the Finley Boulevard Exit on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene where they observed a Silver Chevrolet Trax in the emergency lane on the left side of the interstate.
Officers observed a Hispanic adult male inside of the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Details are limited in this investigation. At this time, it is unknown if the victim’s vehicle was the intended target. We will provide updates promptly upon learning this detail. Currently, there is no one in custody.
