Media Release 47- Homicide Investigation- Children’s Hospital of Alabama.

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, March 9, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:
Autumn Duskin, 4 months old, B/F, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 10:00 AM, South Precinct officers were dispatched to Children’s Hospital of Alabama on report of an unresponsive baby brought in by private vehicle. Children’s Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased.
The victim was at her home prior to being brought in; officers learned the victim’s home address is in the city limits of Birmingham.

The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Officer has performed an autopsy on the victim. The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the manner of death Homicide (Trauma).

Birmingham Homicide detectives have presented case information to the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office to determine if formal charges will be filed.

NOTE: We will provide more detailed information once/if the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office seeks formal charges.

This is Birmingham’s 14th murder investigation of 2023 including 1 justifiable death investigations.

The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI
Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations
counts.

The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**
