Arrest Made in the Lamar King Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives have obtained a warrant for an arrest in connection to the murder of Lamar King. Lamar King was killed on Saturday, March 9, 2024. He passed away at Princeton Baptist Medical Center.

BPD Homicide detectives learned the victim may have been shot in the 1900 Block of 13th Way Southwest while he was inside a vehicle.

Detectives were able to identify a suspect.

The suspect has been identified as:

Kelvin Andra Edwards Jr., (30), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama. 

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, BPD Homicide detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. After an assessment of the information, detectives obtained a warrant for Capital Murder on Kelvin Edwards Jr.

On Thursday, March 14, 2024, BPD’s Crime Reduction Team arrested Kelvin Edwards Jr. at a residence in East Birmingham.

Kelvin Edwards Jr. is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail and held with No Bond.

NOTE: Detectives have not determined who was Kelvin Edwards Jr.’s intended target in the shooting.

Homicide Investigation

(Media Release 44)

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, March 9, 2024.

The victim has been identified as:

Lamar King, (41), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call at 701 Princeton Avenue SW (Princeton Baptist Medical Center).

When officers arrived at the location, they observed the victim unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival by medical personnel.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was dropped off at the hospital by private vehicle.

The location of where the shooting occurred is undetermined at this time.

There is no one in custody.

This is Birmingham’s 18th murder investigation of 2024 with 3 justifiable death investigations.
