Assault / Shooting into Unoccupied Business Investigation Underway
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting an Assault / Shooting into an Unoccupied Business investigation after a person was shot and shots were fired into a business. The incident occurred outside at 1821 2nd Avenue North (Pizitz Food Hall).
At 8:30 PM, North Precinct officers were dispatched to 1821 2nd Avenue North on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene when they observed an adult male outside of the business on a sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A nearby business (Warby Parker) was shot into; no one was inside. There were no additional victims.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim was struck by gunfire outside of the Pizitz Food Hall; the victim was targeted in this shooting.
Currently we have no one in custody.
