Homicide Investigation Update
The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The deceased was discovered on Tuesday March 3, 2020 at approximately 9:55 p.m.
The victim has been identified as Gussie Lee Tyus, (72), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
Officers from South Precinct responded to a shot spotter call of four rounds fired at 957 47th Street North. Officers arrived and discovered the victim unresponsive on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue and Jefferson County Coroner arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Details are very limited in this investigation. There are no suspect(s) in custody. A motive has not been established in this homicide investigation. This is an ongoing investigation and additional details will be provided as they come available.
