Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
The victim has been identified as:
Aven Deione Mitchell, (21), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to Fire Station18 (200 Dugan Avenue) on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed two males inside of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel rendered aid to the males and transported one of the males to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The preliminary investigation suggests the males were traveling in the 1200 block of Avenue W when an unidentified vehicle pulled alongside them and began firing shots.
Currently, there is no one in custody.
