Homicide Investigation
The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
The victim will be identified upon notification of next of kin.
On Saturday, February 29, 2020, Officers from the North Precinct responded to a fight call at 2nd Ave North and 13th Street. Upon arrival officers discovered the victim laying on the ground unresponsive with a severe laceration to the face. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived to the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life threatening injuries.
Detectives were later notified that the victim succumb to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. Based off Information gathered during the preliminary investigation, detectives have classified the incident as a homicide. There are no suspect(s) in custody. This is an ongoing investigation. Additional details will be provided as they come available.

This is Birmingham’s 15th homicide investigation of 2020 and 4 justifiable death investigations. The Birmingham Police Department adheres to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines set for all law enforcement agencies across the United States. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting guidelines do not require law enforcement agencies to include justifiable death investigations into the total homicide investigations counts.
